Guacamole Cheese Is Here To Take Nachos To The Next Level

Guac and I have a strained relationship. I love it when I can make it myself, usually with more garlic than most people deem necessary, but store-bought or restaurant guacamole is a cilantro minefield.

I have the genetic quirk that makes cilantro taste like soap — yes, it's a thing, and it was confirmed in my 23andMe results.

Many guac recipes include the herb and often, they don't even bother to say so on the menu.

There's nothing worse than biting into a gourmet taco at a fancy Mexican restaurant only to have it taste like dirty dish soap.

So I tend to just make my own for parties, but color me intrigued by this new "guacamole cheese" that's appearing on supermarket shelves.

When I first laid eyes on Amanti Guacamole Cheese, I was like "Why?" Cheese and guac are perfectly good things and don't really need to be combined.

Then I read the details and my curiosity grew.

Made by a Dutch cheese company called Daily Dairy, it's 50% full fat cow’s milk cheese that's described as "gouda-like" in texture.

That's blended with real avocado, lime juice, chili, tomato, onion, and garlic to give it the distinctive color and flavor of good guacamole.

And notably, there's no cilantro mentioned in the ingredients. So I may get to enjoy it!

It can be sliced, shredded, or even melted, just like regular cheese, which makes it incredibly versatile.

Shred it right onto your nachos to enjoy the flavor without the gloopy mess!

The thing I'm most excited to try, though, is grilled cheese.

I mean, it's a perfect melty cheese for it and saves the trouble of dipping the sandwich into the guac or making a mess of it in the pan.

The cheese is available in all Fresh Market locations starting May 1, 2019.
