The bond between a mother and a daughter is something special.

When you find an activity that you both love and can share together, it makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

For one mother and her daughter in Melbourne, Australia, that activity is braiding.

Shelley Gifford is a hair-braiding wizard.

She always enjoyed braiding when she was a young girl, but she didn't know how to do more than two types of styles. That all changed when she began researching braiding designs on the internet.

She began learning different braiding techniques.

After watching tutorials, following social media accounts dedicated to braiding, and attending workshops, Gifford became a self-taught braiding expert.

Gifford spends 15-20 minutes almost every morning braiding her daughter's hair.

It's a time that she enjoys spending with her six-year-old daughter Grace before she goes to school. The two were close before she began braiding Grace's hair, but it has brought them even closer.

"It's a lovely feeling... to have that special time with her each morning."

"And I think it's an added bonus that she has that personal attention to make her feel special," Gifford told Today.
