Joaquin Phoenix Gives His Thoughts On 'The Joker' Inspiring Mass Shootings

Joaquin Phoenix has been in some hot water ever since The Joker came out, and people started reading the reviews.

First of all, one should always make their own opinion. A lot of people were critiquing the movie without even seeing it.

That being said, there were some very real and valid fears that people had in concerns to the film.

'Joker' was one of the biggest box office successes DC has had in a while.

And for an R-Rated drama superhero movie, that's quite impressive.

Usually, movies don't make money unless parents can bring their kids to it--Marvel's Cinematic Universe movies have proved that to be true.

But the film was not without controversy.

DC

It was a movie about a lonely, white male taking his revenge on a society that had rejected him.

People were convinced that this was going to cause some mass shootings.

And Joaquin Phoenix, the film's star, had something to say about those allegations.

In an interview with the LA Times, he described his feeling about his movie potentially causing someone to act violent:

“It was an awkward position to be in because I thought, ‘Well, I can’t address this because this is the thing that is potentially part of the problem — that’s precisely what you shouldn’t do,’”

“So it suddenly seemed like I was being evasive and trying to avoid this topic because it made me uncomfortable. But really I was thinking, ‘This is the very thing that would excite this kind of personality.’ ”

Well, the movie hasn't actually caused any mass shootings, but I'm sure there are some people who are still afraid to go to the theatres just in case it does.
