Before the undisputed reign that Pokémon would have over my childhood affections, I was a pretty big fan of Sailor Moon.
I was intrigued by the stylistic traits of anime, although I didn't understand what that was at the time, and the idea of people fighting by using brightly colored power waves was also very appealing to me. Even now, thinking about the show essentially guarantees that I'll get its theme song stuck in my head.
However, you wouldn't know that I liked the show if you stepped into my room because it was actually pretty difficult to get Sailor Moon merchandise on this side of the world for a time.
And perhaps that has a lot to do with the fact that until recent years, a Sailor Moon edition of Monopoly was strangely absent from the board game's endless gallery of collaborations.
