For The First Time Ever, The Top Four Major Pageant Winners Are Black Women

Right now, the top four major pageants in the world are won by black women in a momentous victory for diversity and social change.

Beauty pageants have a long-standing history of perpetuating an ideal of beauty rooted in white patriarchy.

That is, until this year.

Recently, Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi, won the prestigious Miss Universe title, making her the fourth black women to hold a major pageant title, and continuing the streak of history-making wins.

She joins Miss America, Nia Franklin, who won the 92nd pageant in 2018.

Not only is she a pageant winner, but she is a composer an activist for other female composers, giving them the spotlight.

Attorney Cheslie Kryst was crowned Miss Usa's 68th winner this past May.

Kaliegh Garris wears the crown and holds the title for Miss Teen USA 2019.

It's time that these beauty pageants reflect the realities of women around the world, and work to be more inclusive, demonstrating how diverse beauty really is.

And that's beautiful.

Major congrats are in order for these ladies! We can't wait to see how they continue to make their mark on the world.
