If you can believe it, mint condition versions of the popular Corningware cookware pieces have been fetching thousands of dollars on eBay and other auctions.

Corningware was the brand name for a very unique glass-ceramic made out of Pyroceram that made the cookware resistant to thermal shock.

The brand later became Corelle Brands of Rosemont, Illinois.

It was first discovered by S. Donald Stookey who accidentally heated the glass-ceramic material in the furnace to 900 degrees.

When the material didn't shatter, he knew he had something special.

The most iconic Corningware pieces featured a blue cornflower pattern designed by Joseph Baum.

It later became the signature design of a variety of Corning consumer products for three decades.

Afterwards, many other patterns were developed by the company.

The more different and unique the pattern, the more it is sought after by buyers and collectors.

In fact, less common patterns like the "Wildflower" design, which was made from 1977 to 1984, and the "Floral Bouquet" design (1971 to 1975) can actually fetch up large sums on eBay.

Apparently, many boomers are now starting to buy this cookware to remind them of their younger days.

This makes complete sets of CorningWare in mint condition highly collectible.

Even popular designs like the original blue cornflower can still bring you a good load of cash if they're well preserved.

Some have been listed for approximately $1000 on eBay.

Wowza, if you don't have this iconic cookware in your storage perhaps it's time to visit grandma and take a look at her collection.

It could be very promising and lucrative!
