'Single Parents' And Four Other Shows Cancelled By ABC

Every year all television viewers unite, no matter our differences. Whether we like comedy, dramas, medical shows, cop shows, family shows, reality shows, or anything else, we are all united by one thing: fear that our favorite show might get cancelled when it comes time for renewals.

This year, sadly, ABC has left some of us very disappointed in their decisions.

Five shows got the chopping block from ABC this year.

We'll be losing the drama Emergence, the reboot of Kids Say The Darndest Things hosted by Tiffany Hadish, the spin-off from The Goldbergs, Schooled, and two fan favorite comedies that were both co-created by Liz Meriwether, who announced the news on her Instagram.

"'Bless This Mess' and 'Single Parents' won't be coming back for third seasons," Meriwether wrote.

"Two shows canceled in one day? I get the message, ABC! This is my broadcast Red Wedding. But seriously, folks, thank you so much for watching these shows. We loved making them. We loved writing them. I feel so grateful to have been given the chance to work with so many incredible people. Thank you, thank you," she wrote.

Fortunately, it wasn't all bad news.

Of course, tons of shows did get renewed — American Housewife, Grey's Anatomy, The Bachelor, Stumptown, The Conners, The Goldbergs, black-ish, mixed-ish, Shark Tank, American Idol, and Dancing With The Stars will all return to the network for more seasons.

“At a time when we are physically apart and shared experiences matter more than ever, these shows will build on the strategy that has made us No. 1 this season – bringing people together, creating cultural moments, and making content that entertains and inspires across generations and demographics,” said ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke.

“Our top priority now is to work with our studio partners to ensure a safe return to production so that we can build on the strong momentum of a winning lineup with measured bets on new series that will invigorate our air and continue to deliver the quality programming that our viewers have come to expect and love.”
