Amal And George Clooney Donate $100k To Lebanese Relief After Beirut Explosion

One of the most important things that celebrities should be doing with their wealth and influence is making a difference in the world when tragedy strikes. George and Amal Clooney have done just that after the devastating explosion in Beirut, Lebanon, on August 4th.

Amal, who is a Lebanon native, has a personal stake in this horrible tragedy.

The explosion in Beirut on August 4th was detonated by stored ammonium nitrate.

At least 135 people were killed and 5000 more were injured in the explosion. Beirut’s city governor Marwan Abboud said up to 300,000 people have lost their homes, according to Variety.

Actor George Clooney and his wife, international law and human rights attorney Amal Clooney have now spoken out about the tragedy.

"We’re both deeply concerned for the people of Beirut and the devastation they’ve faced in the last few days,” they said in a statement, and went on to announce that they had decided to donate to the cause and hope that others follow suit.

George and Amal listed the organizations they will be donating to.

“Three charitable organizations we’ve found are providing essential relief on the ground: the Lebanese Red Cross, Impact Lebanon, and Baytna Baytak. We will be donating these three $100,000 and hope that others will help in any way they can,” they said.

The couple also donated $1 million earlier to coronavirus relief efforts earlier in the year.
