10+ Actresses Who Are Notoriously Difficult To Work With

Reputation means everything to an actress in Hollywood.

It helps dictate their public image, whether people want to work with them, and so much more. Basically, if a celeb's reputation is in the toilet, oftentimes, so is their career.

Here are 10+ actresses who have gotten a bad rap sheet for being notoriously difficult to work with.

1. Megan Fox

The Transformers actress was fired from the franchise after she compared the film's director, Michael Bay, to Napoleon and Hitler.

"He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is," she told Wonderland.

But it wasn't just Bay that she had problems with.

The Transformers: Dark of the Moon screenwriter Ehren Kruger told GQ in 2011 that Fox didn't seem passionate about the movies.

"She seemed like an actress who didn't want to be a part of it. She was saying she wanted to, but she wasn't acting like it."

2. Teri Hatcher

Not a lot of people have been desperate to work with Hatcher after Nicollette Sheridan's comments.

The former Desperate Housewives star called her the “meanest woman in the world” for her diva behavior. Yikes.

3. Gwyneth Paltrow

The star's alledged diva persona has made Hollywood afraid to touch her with a 10-foot pole.

A lot of this stems from her privilege rubbing a lot of people the wrong way, like the time she recommended a $15,000 vibrator to her Goop readers.

She's defended herself from these allegations that she's privileged by coming from a famous family.

"[T]he idea that I am spoiled or that I didn't work for what I have, that's just not accurate," she told BBC HARDTalk.

"But I can see how somebody might have that perception."

4. Julia Roberts

America's sweetheart may not be so sweet!

She allegedly infuriated director/producer Steven Spielberg while they worked on Hook together.

According to his biography, she was late to set all of the time and unapologetic to boot.

"It was not a great time for Julia and I to be working together," he once told *60 Minutes*, adding that he never would again.

It came to the point where cast and crew nicknamed her "Tinkerhell."

5. Mariah Carey

While she's a singer first, Mariah had tried her hand at acting before. First with Glitter and most recently with working on The House.

Unfortunately, though, it did not do anything to help her diva reputation.

Her co-star, Rob Heubel, shared all to SiriusXM’s *Entertainment Weekly Radio*.

He began by saying that Carey was once four hours late to set.

They also said that she requested specific items for her trailer, such as all white roses.

6. Shannen Doherty

Drama unfolded offscreen when Doherty’s starred on Beverly Hills 90210.

Her co-star, Jason Priestly, didn't mince words when he told-all about Shannen in his memoir. "She really and truly did not give a [expletive]” he wrote.

Jennie Garth, another one of her co-stars, said that they had a love/hate relationship with Shannen.

“There were times when we loved each other and there were times when we wanted to claw each other’s eyes out.”

He told TV guide that she was "unapproachable" on set.

"She's not as approachable as the others," he said upon his exit from the show. "She's really serious about what she does. Everyone else is so nice."

7. January Jones

The person who outed the actress for being difficult to work with is a surprising one. Hint: he's very young!

It was her 11-year-old Jared Gilmore who played Jones’s on-screen son in Mad Men.

8. Lea Michele

The star's diva behavior was brought to light in 2020.

It all started when one of her former co-stars, Samantha Maria Ware, outed her on Twitter.

"LMAO REMEMBER WHEN YOU MADE MY FIRST TELEVISON GIG A LIVING HELL?!?! CAUSE ILL NEVER FORGET," she tweeted.

Soon, more of her co-stars came forward with their stories.

Dabier Snell, who appeared in a 2014 episode, tweeted that Lea wouldn't let him sit at the table with other cast members because Lea said "I didn't belong there."

8. Sharon Stone

The Basic Instinct actress wasn't so basic in her demands for the franchise's second movie.

She ended up filing a $100 million lawsuit for them not paying her $14 million salary, regardless of whether the movie was made or not.

10. Lindsay Lohan

It's not just Lindsay's personal life that has been a wreck the past decade. It's been her career, too.

She regularly canceled appointments while working on The Canyons, in addition to causing some "serious challenges" while filming Lifetime’s Liz & Dick.

11. Katherine Heigl

The actress has been unable to shake her bad reputation of being difficult to work with.

It all started on Grey's Anatomy when she rejected Emmy consideration for her role because she didn't like the writing.

Then, when she worked on *Knocked Up*, she made headlines for calling the movie "a little sexist."

"It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys," she told Vanity Fair.

12. Jennifer Lopez

J.Lo's film career has all but dried up and many point the finger at her diva-like behavior as the cause and culprit.

She once referred to her co-star Cameron Diaz as nothing more than a fortunate model who'd be given every chance imaginable.

13. Jennifer Aniston

Jenn has been rumored to isolate herself from the cast and crew. She often eats alone and requests that her trailer be far removed from the lot.

She once threw a chair at her director for speaking to a PA disrespectfully. Ironic, isn't it?

14. Madonna

Have you ever wondered why you don't see Madonna in movies anymore? It's mainly because no one can stand to work with her these days.

She refused to speak to Julianne Moore on the set of Body of Evidence because she said it interfered with her method-acting process.

15. Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood is no stranger to controversy. In 2014 she was sued for $30 million for refusing to return to the set of 10 Things I Hate About Life.

After production was forced to halt, Wood walked away and demanded morning money.

17. Cybill Shepherd

Cybill Shepherd was absolutely detested by her boss and former Cybill showrunner, Chuck Lorre.

When Chuck was given the opportunity to be a guest writer on C.S.I., he devised an episode wherein a reprehensible former sitcom star is brutally murdered.

18. Paz de la Huerta

HBO

Paz de la Huerta's mental health has sadly been called into question multiple times.

While appearing in Boardwalk Empire, Paz would often show up to set high and unable to work. One source also asserts that she'd walk around the set naked.

20. Mischa Barton

Mischa Barton became fed up with The O.C. after she decided that the workload was becoming too strenuous.

The star has been unable to find steady work since, largely due to her history of substance abuse and mental health problems.

21. Anne Hathaway

While shooting a commercial in Japan, Anne reportedly sent her breakfast (sunny-side up eggs) back to the kitchen four times!

She also halted production on Serenity so that the crew could find an outlet for her Nespresso machine.

22. Angelina Jolie

While filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Angelina Jolie butted heads with director Doug Liman on almost a daily basis.

According to Doug, Angelina would offer up her own direction mid-scene completely unprovoked and would openly challenge and disagree with him.

23. Naomi Campbell

The model-turned-actress is known not only for being an absolute diva but also for her violent behavior as well.

She was once charged with assault for throwing a phone at her maid's head. Understandably, not many actors are lining up to work with Naomi.

24. Ashlee Simpson

Ashlee's behavior got her canned from the CW reboot of Melrose Place.

She would often show up to work late and was positively loathed by her fellow castmates. An unnamed source also questioned Ashlee's talent, stating that the former pop star could barely act.

25. Samantha Morton

Samantha Morton got her River Queen director, Vincent Ward, fired!

Vincent was eventually brought back and has since gone on record stating that Samantha's emotional power while enticing to watch on screen, doesn't disappear when the cameras turn off.

"Samantha is one of the most talented actresses I have ever worked with, but the reality is she's lived a tough life."

While speaking with the Sydney Morning Herald, Vincent explained that "I saw grown men cry. She made them cry."

Who wants to be bullied by their co-workers? It's understandable why some would shy away from working with Samantha.

26. Sean Young

Oliver Stone fired Sean from the set of his movie Wall Street. The way that Oliver tells the story, Sean wouldn't stop pestering him about wanting to switch characters.

After being pushed to his breaking point, Oliver was forced to let her go.

27. Shenae Grimes

AnnaLynne McCord spilled the tea to Wendy Williams about her feud with fellow 90210 co-star Shenae Grimes.

The actress explains that Shenae was driven by ego, that she was the proverbial 'mean girl' on set and made her life miserable.
