Leonardo DiCaprio's Iconic 'I'm The King Of The World' Line In 'Titanic' Almost Didn't Happen

Some would say "Titanic" is one of the biggest movies of the 20th century, and they'd be right.

1. Movie Won 11 Oscars

The film was nominated by the Academy Awards a staggering 14 times, and took home 11 of those honors, including Best Picture and Best Director. It starred Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater and Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson.

4. More Than 1,500 Died On the Titanic

The line comes as DiCaprio's on the bow of the RMS Titanic, the infamous cruise liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912. More than 1,500 people died on the ship and in the surrounding waters after it struck an iceberg.

As Jack Dawson stood on the bow with his friend, Fabrizio (Danny Nucci), he's to say, "I'm the king of the world!"

6. DiCaprio Wasn't Sure About the Line

Cameron turned to DiCaprio and said: “And I said, ‘All right, I’ve got one for you. Just say, ‘I’m the king of the world,’ and just spread your arms out wide and just be in the moment and just love it and just celebrate it and love it.’ And he goes, ‘What?’” Apparently Cameron really had to sell DiCaprio on the line.

7. The Best Line of the Bunch

As news.com.au writes, Cameron recalled that the line was made up on the spot, because other lines just weren't holding water. “It was made up on the spot. I was in a crane basket, and we were losing the light. I had tried this and we had tried that, tried this line and that line and it was just coming up snake eyes,” Cameron says in the film. Leo wasn't feeling it.

8. "Just F--king Sell It"

Apparently DiCaprio just didn't get it, so Cameron had to really push him to say it.

“I’m getting this over the walkie talkie. ‘I’m the king of the world,’ just say, ‘I’m the king of the world,’ but you’ve got to sell it! And he (DiCaprio) goes, ‘What?!’ I said, ‘Just f**king sell it.’ ”

And of course DiCaprio did and the rest is history. While it was a great scene, the shot of DiCaprio and Winslet at the bow later on in the film also captured filmgoers' hearts.

10. No Trouble With Winslet

With US Weekly, Cameron also spoke about his relationship with of Titanic star Kate Winslet. As far as working with Winslet, Cameron said she was a "dream." “Kate was a phenomenal collaborator and just so gung-ho. She was really excited about doing the water work and she, at her peak, I think she held her breath for seven and a half minutes," said Cameron, according to US Weekly.

For others, the scene that still gets us is the one where Rose didn't move over a bit for Jack to fit on that door. Some of us are still angry about that. They could have gone on to live together in happiness, but no, she had to hog the door. But that's what makes a compelling film.
