Parents Have Thoughts On This Over-The-Top Sleepover Trend

We live in the age of Pinterest parenting and it seems that parents are constantly trying to outdo each other with over-the-top parties.

I am still somewhat new to the parenting world, so I had no idea how crazy these parties could get. However, thanks to a recent Twitter thread, kids' sleepovers have morphed into red-carpet-level events.

Needless to say, parents online had a lot of thoughts about this new trend.

When I was a kid, sleepovers usually meant sleeping in my friend's basement and watching a movie we had rented from Blockbuster.

I mean, it wasn't anything like a 13 Going On 30-level slumber party, but at the time, it was really fun.

Apparently though, sleepovers have changed a lot since I was a kid.

Twitter user @ErynnBrook shared this tweet of photos (likely from Pinterest) that show the most over-the-top sleepover set-ups I have ever seen.

Let's dive into these photos a bit, shall we?

Now, people are throwing epic slumber parties where each kid gets their own tent and bed. They even get unicorn pillows, for crying out loud!

Or, what about this arrangement?

Nametags?! What?! I was lucky to get a spot on the carpeted area of my friend's floor when I was a kid. Where are the sleeping bags and mismatched pillows?

And if these arrangements weren't already too much, apparently kids get loot bags for sleepovers now?

You have to be kidding me. I remember that it was a treat if I got a bowl of cereal for breakfast the next morning. Kids these days don't know how good they have it.

These photos sparked quite the conversation among parents online.

Like me, many were wondering how this could compare to the sleepovers from our childhoods. Also, Grease still is the ultimate sleepover movie, in case you were wondering.

Thankfully, it seems that some kids are still having sleepovers the old-fashioned way.

I remember it was a huge deal when my friend brought her Britney Spears cassette so we could make up dance routines. I'm glad some kids still enjoy the simple things in life.

Some parents have witnessed these intense sleepovers firsthand.

Okay, this sounds exhausting. I know no one actually sleeps at a sleepover, but this many activities can't be good for kids. Just let them eat junk and watch movies like a normal sleepover.

Overall, the consensus seems to be that kids these days are going to miss out on the true sleepover experience.

Sleepovers weren't perfect when we were kids, but they were so much fun. I'm not going to lie, I would have loved a custom unicorn pillow but nothing beats that feeling of waking up before everyone else in your friend's home.

What do you think of this trend?
