Viral Video Catches Burger King Employee Cleaning Tables With A Mop

As a former food franchise worker, I can say without doubt that although finding corners to cut seems like a dream, it never really helps as much as doing things the right way does. That's especially true of a closing shift. You'd do darn near anything to get out of there and head home as early as possible.

But when you cut corners, you always pay for it later. One young Burger King employee is learning that the hard way.

Burger King has a whopper of a problem on its hands after a customer in Florida spotted a worker cleaning table tops with a floor mop.

Katie Duran had taken her family out for Burger King and grabbed her phone when she saw the employee take the mop he'd just been using to wash the floor and wipe down a table with it.

"I had just eaten on that table," Duran said.

"Did you do that yesterday? Do you do this every night? Did you do this this morning?" she wondered aloud to News4JAX.

Mopping tables might seem like an ingenious lifehack, but customers and corporate headquarters agree that it's unacceptable.

Duran sent her video to Burger King's corporate entity and they got in touch with management to address the worker's actions. "The action depicted in the video is unacceptable and not in line with our brand standards or operational procedures," a spokesperson said. "We have strict protocols around cleanliness and food safety. The restaurant owner will be re-training his team on all operational protocols."

Of course, health regulators also expressed some concern over Duran's video.

A spokesperson for the state's Department of Business and Professional Regulation, which regulates restaurants, said that "Pursuant to the FDA Food Code, cloths in-use for wiping counters and other equipment surfaces must be clean and held between uses in a chemical sanitizer solution. A floor mop is not an acceptable cleaning implement."

Apparently this isn't the first time that Burger King location has been in trouble for their cleanliness.

According to News4JAX, the location was cited for seven basic violations and one intermediate violation on a health inspection, including kitchen vents that contained mold and lack of hair nets while prepping food.
