These Common Things Get Mixed Up For Being The Same, But They're Not At All

There are a lot of things in this world. And not only are there a lot of things, but many of these things look so similar that it's hard to keep up with what really makes them different.

According to Britannica, tortoise is not just a fancy name for turtle.

While all tortoises are turtles, not all turtles are tortoises. Excuse?

Tortoises strictly live on land, while turtles mostly live in the water.

Wasps always get called bees, and quite frankly, it's an insult.

There is a reason why we hate wasps so much — they can sting us multiple times! Bees can only provide one fatal sting and that's it, although it doesn't mean it hurts any less.

Honeybees are also cute and hairy, while wasps sport a bright yellow body. They just look like they want to sting you.

Emoticons and emojis have a very small difference that makes a pretty big difference.

Those of us who grew up with the OG online messaging applications remember using emoticons, the symbols that come together to resemble an emotion.

While often used interchangeably, emoji is a Japanese term that has nothing to do with emotion — it's merely a coincidence! The kanji for "e" and "moji" come together to mean "picture character."

So, emojis are literal pictures of things, and not just emotions.

Oranges and tangerines are borderline identical — they're both orange and round, so what the heck is different about them?

Tangerines are smaller than oranges and their rinds are thinner and easier to remove, while oranges are larger and their rinds are thicker.

If you know the struggle of having to remove a rind from one of these citrus fruits, then you'll know it's an orange. And we've all been there.
