One Mom Wakes Her Daughter Every Morning By Licking Her 'Like A Puppy'

Do you remember how your parents used to wake you up in the morning? My mom used to throw open the blinds and rip off my comforter — I hated it.

If you think that's bad, then you need to check out TLC's sMothered. Then you'll be able to see how this mother wakes her 21-year-old daughter every morning by licking her face like a dog!

Marcia and her daughter Alena have an incredibly tight bond.

Marcia says that her daughter is undoubtedly her best friend, and Alena agrees. They do everything together and have even appeared on TLC's sMothered: a reality TV show about overbearing parents and their children.

It was here that audiences first learned of Marcia's utterly strange morning ritual.

Every morning, Marcia comes into her daughter's room and licks her face.

"She kept pestering me for a puppy and I wasn't able to get her a puppy, so I changed into a doggy," Marcia explained to the camera.

What's odder is that Alena actually enjoys her mother's tongue-wagging.

"I love it when my mom licks me. It kind of makes me feel closer to her when we do something fun and out of the ordinary," Alena said happily.

This odd expression of love began when Alena was just a baby.

Her mother explained how Alena was born with an enzyme deficiency and had very little stamina as an infant.

Marcia would lick Alena and have her chase her all around the house as a way of building up her strength.

And that useful playfulness between Alena and Marcia has never stopped.

"It was really a good thing to help her grow and it just continued," Marcia explained.

Even now, the morning ritual that begins with the licking isn't complete until Alena has managed to chase down and catch her mom.

And when Alena Does catch Marcia, she returns her mom's shower of affection as well.

"When I catch my Mamma I do all my kissy-poos and I kiss her all up. She's very kissable," Alena said.

As rituals go, it's all quite sweet and cute, although the pair admit that outsiders might find it all odd.

But, if anyone is put off by their displays of affection, they don't care much.

"Some people don't agree or they wonder what is wrong with her. I love the idea as she's growing up of being able to do all those silly things," Marcia explained.

Marcia admits that it's not quite as easy as it used to be.

"It's getting a little tricky as she's getting older, but we still do all the same antics and we still play the same games and we have fun," Marcia said.

And that's something that other parents out there might just envy.
