Sisters Become Neighbors After Buying Matching Tiny Homes

Having a sister is like having a built-in best friend.

At least, that's what my mom told me. It took my sister and I until our late teens to figure it out, but now I can't imagine not calling my sister my best friend. That's also the case for sisters Alexis Monkhouse and Ashley Okegbenro Monkhouse, who decided they loved each other too much to live apart from one another — so they bought tiny homes next to each other!

Meet Alexis.

The older of the two, Alexis is a single mom to her daughter, Nalini, who she lovingly refers to as "boss." The two live in their custom-designed tiny home next to Alexi's sister, Ashley, in Tampa, Florida.

Meet Ashley.

She's Alexis' younger sister and the proud mom to two Shih Tzus, Tulula and Chaos. She documents her tiny home journey on her YouTube channel, where she makes videos about cooking and cleaning in a small space.

So, how did they end up neighbors?

"I took my sister with me to tour tiny houses because I didn't want to go alone," Alex explained on Instagram.

When the two got there, Ashley realized that Alexis was definitely onto something.

It was a done deal.

"She took a tour of one house & said 'alright I'll get one too."

And just like that, the sisters started their tiny home builds. They're living my dream, tbh!

Alexis' home was designed with comfort in mind.

Each sister used money from the passing of their mother to build their homes, according to an interview the pair did with Insider.

Alexis went for a warm, homey type feeling, with double lofts and warm wood tones.

Ashely is a modern girl who likes crisp, clean lines.

Her house is done up in monochromatic black and white tones, high contrast decor, and lots of light! Her leather couch also doubles as her work space and dog play space.

Alex said she loves to go to Ashley's house for one very hilarious reason.

"You know what's great about having a sister who lives tiny but doesn't have kids??

When my house is a complete MESS boss and I can hop skip on over to my sister's CLEAN house," she said on Instagram.

Nothing but respect for her right now. I would do the exact same thing.

Both sisters are tiny living while they work on getting their degrees!

Alexis is working on getting her master's degree in anthropology, while Ashley is getting her master's degree in exercise and nutrition. Both work from home right next door to each other!

They say they love their setup.

The sisters lead very different lives, but living next to each other keeps them connected.

"We're so happy here," Alexis told Insider.

I can see why — they're living super cool, fun lives!
