12-Year-Old Boy Rescues Couple And Their Dog By Using Boy Scout Knowledge

I cant think of anything worse than being lost in a forest. It gives me flashbacks to watching The Blair Witch project all over again. Forget the ghosts and mysterious rock pikes, being lost in a forest was the scariest part of that movie for me.

Well, when a real-life couple found themselves in that situation, they were helped by a young boy who had learned a helpful hack during his time with the Boy Scouts.

JD and Aimee had only intended to go on a 2-mile hike with their 100-pound dog, Smokey. Unfortunately, the pair soon got lost after the start of their hike and ended up seven miles into the trail.

If that wasn't bad enough, the pair had run out of water, food and their cellphones had died, as reported by the Western Journal.

Sounds like the beginning of a horror movie, right?

Thankfully, the stranded pair ran into 12-year-old David King and his mother, Christine.

It just so happened that David was been three miles out of completing a 15-mile hike to earn his Boy Scouts Merit Badge — impressive, right?

The mother-son duo saw JD and Aimee struggling and offered to lend a helping hand.

It would have been easy for David to lead everyone out of the trail, except the pair's dog caused a bit of an issue. Poor Smokey was injured with cuts on his paws and was unable to walk!

Thankfully, David's backlog of Boy Scout knowledge quickly came in handy.

"We built them a stretcher using a big tree branch that we broke in half and used our shirts and slid it on using the armholes to fit the sticks through," the 12-year-old told KHON.

The young boy had learned the technique from his older brother, who happened to be an Eagle Scout.

"It was really tough, but we rotated,” David recalled. "Sometimes we did four people, two on each side, two people — my mom and the man — and then the dog would get off and walk some which was really helpful and let us relax."

Eventually, the group reached the end of the trail safely and was able to get all of Smokey's cuts checked out.

"Make sure that whenever you're doing an activity, think of what can go wrong and how you can prevent it," David said as a parting piece of advice to the news outlet.

What an incredible story of bravery and triumph! Way to go, David!
