Making mistakes in the kitchen is inevitable. Even professional chefs make mistakes — like all the time. I've watched enough Food Network to know that even the best chefs have days where they've undercooked chicken, or overseasoned a sauce.

Now, one home cook is sharing her fool-proof secret to saving a dish that you've oversalted, maintaining your reputation as the house with the best food on the block!

Cooking is one of my favorite things to do. I love being in the kitchen cooking for my family, or myself. I do prefer cooking for just myself thought — let's be real.

With my kids running in and out of the kitchen, it can be hard to keep track of what I've made and what I've already seasoned.

Naturally, this chaotic energy has lead me to over seasoning one or two soups and stews in my day.

As we all know, it's very difficult to come back from adding too much salt to something.

Now, one mom is claiming to have found the ultimate food hack for salvaging over-salty soups.

TikToker user and mom Vanessa has gone viral for her salty food-saving trick.

"Have you ever accidentally put too much salt in your food and didn’t know what to do?" she asks in her video’s caption.

Viewers then see Vanessa plop a whole, peeled potato into her stew.

She goes on to explain that the potato will absorb some of the excess salt, helping the dish even out.

She jokes at the end of the video to just serve the soup like nothing ever happened.

This is such a great trick I'll have to try out the next time I mess up a dish!
