A Beauty Brand Used The Worst Emoji To Help The Amazon

Welcome to another episode of beauty brand blunders. We've seen plenty of beauty brands get into trouble for their awful PR disasters, and the next brand isn't any better.

NUDESTIX is the next culprit. They are trying their hand at slacktivism, inviting consumers to comment with an emoji on their post in exchange for a one whole dollar being donated to Amazon conservation efforts, but their emoji choice was rather inappropriate.

If you don't know, the Amazon rainforest is burning. These fires were unfortunately started intentionally to make room for crops and cattle, but at what cost?

People around the world are raising awareness and trying to do what they can to halt these fires and save our planet.

In horrific situations like these, brands often use a 'slacktivism' tactic, in which they offer measures for individuals to feel like they're helping a cause, which they are in a very minimal way. At the same time, they're also helping boost a company's image in hopes that it will bring more consumers.

Anyways, it's not all entirely bad, but the beauty brand NUDESTIX thought it was appropriate to get people to comment with the FIRE emoji in exchange for donating $1 to the organization Amazon Conservation.

BIG big yikes. They could have used any other emoji, but they didn't. They chose the absolute worst one for the cause.

People wanted to help and comment as much as they could so that the company would donate a lot of money, but many pointed out how inappropriate the choice of emoji was.

It honestly makes me cringe.

People definitely picked up on the awful choice, because some chose to use other emojis that represent nature and rebuilding, like trees and animals.

Yes, now this is a great use of emoji for the cause!

That's all it took, NUDESTIX.

Thankfully, the company did end up editing their post, as captured by Instagram account @esteelaundry.

It doesn't seem that NUDESTIX has commented on the blunder, but we're glad that they made the change.

This truly shows that even the smallest symbol can really mean so much.

If you want to help conservation efforts, here's a thorough list of ways you can help, as well as organizations to donate to.
