People Are Placing Teal Pumpkins On Their Porch For An Inclusive Halloween Tradition

Going trick-or-treating is every child's favorite Halloween tradition. Why? Because it's all about the candy, am I right? But what if your child has food allergies and can't eat regular candy?

Well, there's a new tradition in town called the Teal Pumpkin Project and its aimed at kids with food allergies. Read all about it below to get the scoop.

These days, food allergies affect about 1 in every 13 children.

The most common allergens are foods like nuts, eggs, milk, soy, and wheat which can be found in candy.

That's why FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) started the Teal Pumpkin Project.

They wanted to make Halloween inclusive for children with food allergies.

Teal is the color of food allergy awareness campaign run by FARE.

They have now taken their Teal Pumpkin Project nationwide by showing people that "teal is the new orange" when it comes to pumpkins.

The idea is simple:

Whenever you see a teal pumpkin on someone's porch it means the house will give out a non-food treat instead of candy to kids with food allergies.

Some treat options include small toys, craft supplies, or stickers.

There are lots of affordable options out there.

If you choose to hand out non-food treats, just make sure they are safe.

Some toys can be a choking hazard for young children.

Many families choose to hand out both non-food treats and candy.

That way, there's something for everyone. Just make sure to keep the candy and non-food treats seperate.

If you want to take part in the Teal Pumpkin Project, be sure to register your house.

That way, trick-or-treaters will easily find your home online using FARE's map.

Wow, what an awesome idea.

I think this should be a regular thing everywhere. It's a fantastic way to protect kids from having an accident that could be life-threatening.

Now you can even find teal pumpkins at Target stores.

That's so awesome. No need to have to paint your pumpkins all by yourself. It's all ready for you.

Of course, you can DIY teal pumpkins too!

Get creative with your own teal pumpkins and host a DIY party.

You can even take your Teal Pumpkin Project commitment to a new level such as this household did.

Wow, this is really impressive. Teal is one of my favorite colors.

Instead of an actual pumpkin, some people choose to hang up a sign.

Either way, people will know that there's a variety of treats available!

In addition to regular candy, you can stock up on other Halloween treat alternatives such as mini slinkies, spider rings, Halloween-themed erasers, vampire fangs, glow sticks, pencils, and stickers.

There are lots of non-food treats available.

I have to say this Teal Pumpkin Project is such an amazing idea.

Not every child is able to enjoy regular candy and it's awesome to have other options.
