People Reveal The Craziest Things They've Caught On A Nanny Cam

Although nannies, babysitters, and anyone else available to care for children can seem like the salvation of any parent who wants or needs to go out, there's an obvious level of trust that comes with hiring one.

After all, parents need to feel assured that this person will not only be able to handle any situation that arises, but also won't indulge in any dangerous behavior once the parents leave.

And while parents may make it clear to their children that they should tell them about anything that goes wrong, it's unfortunately not always that simple. Not only are some people talented manipulators who can convince them not to, but they may also be up to something that the child doesn't even realize is wrong.

For that reason, many parents will leave a nanny cam behind to ensure their sitters' behavior is on the up and up. And some of those have elected to share their stories on Reddit.

Some parents will forego babysitters for a daycare service, but it turns out this isn't always a perfect solution either.

As one user shared, "This was my (equivalent of) pre-k. All the kids were regressing in their movement ability and getting really fat so they set up spy equipment. Turns out one carer was doubling every baby’s food portions and forcefully overfeeding them."

It's unclear why exactly this person was doing this, but it's possible that they took a worry about the kids not getting enough to eat to some harmful extremes.

Of course, the tale of one secretive nanny shows that the opposite problem is certainly possible, too.

A case one user heard about saw a couple hire a nanny when one parent worked and the other was abroad. Unfortunately, they eventually started to notice their child becoming malnourished and set up a camera to see what was going on.

As this user wrote, "Apparently the lady used to bring her kid and feed him all the food left for the kid she was supposed to babysit. Then she would feed the kid cheap biscuits. She was promptly handed over to police."

One nanny had a very harmful idea as to what counts as a "baby wipe."

When one mom noticed, that her baby would cry more than usual during a diaper change, she set up a nanny cam to see if it concerned anything the carer they hired was doing.

It turned out that during diaper changes, this person would substitute Clorox wipes if they were in reach when the baby wipes weren't.

Apparently, it doesn't go without saying that those aren't intended for a human's skin, especially not the most sensitive parts of a baby's body.

Although many of these stories displayed alarming behavior from babysitters, one camera simply captured one in the middle of a tragic moment.

When the user's sister was very young, the camera in her room captured her holding the baby and crying.

Apparently, she had experienced a miscarriage the day before.

Sometimes, suspicious parents can end up discovering a lot more than they bargained for.

One user, for instance, wrote that their mom set up a camera after she suspected her maid of stealing the silverware.

But while her suspicions were confirmed, it was hard to care so much about the stolen silverware when that maid was also revealed to be having an affair with the user's father. Clearly, he hadn't been told about the hidden camera.

When one user set up a nanny cam of their own, the footage made it immediately clear they had nothing to worry about.

As they wrote, "We have a nanny cam and we caught our nanny... dancing with our baby, making him laugh and giving him kisses. She’s the best and the cameras gave us the peace of mind to know she really treats him like her own."

In times like these, it's so relieving to know there are still people in this world we can trust.

And not to worry, that isn't the only cute story we have in store for you.

One user's parents apparently caught the babysitter cradling their 60-pound golden retriever like it was a baby.

It's one of those things that may be a little embarrassing for the sitter, but endlessly adorable for everyone else.

Let it be known that charcoal is not, and has never been, edible.

Yet somehow, this user caught their nanny feeding charcoal to their children.

After she'd been caught, the woman insisted she genuinely thought the charcoal, which she had found in a charcoal box, was an edible snack. Whether that's true or not, this is still a deeply disturbing story.

One nanny thought she found a shortcut, but the only thing she cut short was her employment.

Although this story took place before nanny cams were widely available, the user's mom found reason to wonder what her nanny was up to after her kids could never sleep at night after spending the day with her.

When she came home early, she discovered that the nanny always dosed the children with children's medicine so they would sleep all day and she didn't have to do anything.

But while this behavior was potentially dangerous, another babysitter's self-serving actions had far more serious consequences.

Once again, the user reporting this story said said it took place before nanny cams were a thing, but the parents found reason to be vigilant after their special needs brother needed to be hospitalized after a period of constant seizures.

What they discovered was that this babysitter (their step-sister) was stealing his medication so she could use it later. This wasn't limited to anti-seizure pills, but also tranquilizers he took called benzodiazepines.

It was clear that she was feeding an addiction.

There's nothing necessarily wrong with how one pet-sitter decided to make their entrance, but it was definitely wild nonetheless.

One user paid their neighbor to feed the cats in their yard, and he apparently did this by literally pole vaulting over their fence.

It turns out he had nailed the landing, too.

Some babysitters will do anything to keep the children they're minding entertained.

This user shared that their aunt caught her hired sitter on camera playing blackjack with her eldest son. While certainly not bad by any means, the most interesting part was that they played for real money. And that kid managed to win $50 from the babysitter who should maybe practice a bit more.

Sometimes our own family members can surprise us.

This user shared that they set up a camera in their room to record their pet bunny, since they knew their family members weren't follow specific cafe instructions in the user's absence.

However, one family member actually surprised the bunny owner. Rightfully believing their brother hated their pointy-eared pet, the user was shocked to catch that same brother coming into their room to play with the bunny in secret.

In one story, the kid being babysit was caught on camera in a heartwarming moment.

As this user explained,

"My mom often tells the story of how she watched me give a big ol hug to my babysitter who just broke down out of nowhere after serving me lunch. Turns out her dad had died a month back and it just wasn't a good day for her."

This babysitter was caught using the homeowner's closet like their own personal boutique.

"Friend caught [the sitter] rummaging through her closet and stealing a blouse," this user shared. "She confronted her about it when she returned home, and the woman played innocent."

But perhaps she should have hid the most incriminating evidence beforehand:

"She was wearing the f***ing blouse."

Another sitter committed perhaps the most heinous crime of all. At least, in the world of jigsaw puzzles.

According to this user, their babysitter was caught stealing on a camcorder that had been hidden in the house. The worst thing she took? One piece of a puzzle the family had been working on.

That's pure evil right there.

This story involves the television series *Friends* and one babysitter who didn't take kindly to their show being interupted.

Per the user's post, the babysitter was in the middle of watching their daily marathon of Friends episodes on TV when the child they were looking after happened to disrupt this little solo viewing party.

The sitter then actually hit the child, simply because they'd interrupted.

While some nanny cam footage may compel parents to fire their babysitter, others can confirm they picked the exact right person for the job.

When the user was babysitting for a couple, their camera embedded in a teddy bear showed her giving the Heimlich maneuver to their two-year-old son after he had tried to eat a rock.

Sometimes, the worst thing that a babysitter can do is nothing.

When one user checked the nanny cam they set up for their one-year-old sister, they discovered that the babysitter decided to take an afternoon nap while the child happily destroyed the user's Playstation.

The sitter must've been a heavy sleeper.
