The legendary director suffered from a stroke two weeks ago.
Writer-director John Singleton made a major impact on cinema with films like Boyz n the Hood, Poetic Justice, and Shaft.
Unfortunately, he suffered a terrible stroke two weeks ago at only 51 years of age.
After two weeks of hoping for a medical miracle, Singleton's family has decided to take him off of life support at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Singleton's family released a statement on their decision, expressing their sadness at the situation and their gratitude to the doctors.
"We are grateful to his fans, friends and colleagues for the outpouring of love and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. We want to thank all the doctors at Cedars Sinai for the impeccable care he received."
They also encouraged others to recognize the signs of hypertension, a disease that Singleton struggled with for years.
"Like many African Americans, Singleton quietly struggled with hypertension. More than 40% of African American men and women have high blood pressure, which also develops earlier in life and is usually more severe. His family wants to share the message with all to please recognize the symptoms by going to Heart.org."
