Buffalo Brussels Sprouts Look Unreal And I Think I’m A Grown-Up Now

Be honest—we've all got this weird vendetta against brussels sprouts that stems from childhood.

We were forced to eat them once when we were like five-years-old, hated them because they were boiled without any seasoning, and we've sworn against them ever since.

I literally don't even make eye contact with brussels sprouts while I'm grocery shopping. I feel like they'll infiltrate my thoughts and make me feel guilty for hating them.

We classify them as "old people food."

But contrary to popular belief, it isn't because older people prefer boring food. It's likely because most of us develop a much wider palate for different flavors as we get older, so foods we hated as kids can sometimes taste totally different when how we remember.

Yea, boiled brussels sprouts are pretty boring, but did you know there are other ways to prepare the little green monsters?

Like fried with buffalo sauce.

Yeah, I know. Wild.

Buffalo brussels sprouts are totally a thing, and their flavor and crunch rival your classic buffalo sauce wings.

Vegetarian or not, these sprouts look ridiculously good.

I'll set the scene for you.

These are the things you're gonna send your boyfriend to get for you from Trader Joes:

1 lb. brussels sprouts

1 c. all-purpose flour

2 large eggs, beaten

2 c. panko bread crumbs

Canola oil, for frying

Kosher salt

Freshly ground black pepper

Buffalo sauce, for serving

You've gotta boil the sprouts first, dip em' in your mixture, then pan fry them.

Delish has all the cooking instruction deets, but I wanted to get y'all set up with your ingredients first.

You've gotta know what you're getting yourself into, you know? Like I'm not investing my energy into a recipe just to find out I need golden truffle flakes from a different flippin' country.

Dip them in that good ol' buffalo sauce for the perfect game day snack.

Who knew brussels sprouts could be redeemed? I guess it's okay to give things second chances.

Not your ex though—please don't text your ex.

Does this make us officially adults?

This is my first experience legitimately craving brussels sprouts, and honestly, I think that it's a rite of passage.

Try the recipe yourself and tell us what you think. We're all in this weird, brussels sprout-inclusive world of adulthood together.
