Netflix has released their schedule of additions for February. While there are a few major releases coming to the service, it is a lighter schedule that is fitting for the shortest month of the year.
The biggest release will kick off the month for Netflix, as Jake Gyllenhaal re-teams with Nightcrawler director Dan Gilroy for the bonkers Velvet Buzzsaw on the first of the month:
After a series of paintings by an unknown artist is discovered, a supernatural force enacts revenge on those who have allowed their greed to get in the way of art.
The second big release will be The Umbrella Academy, based on the comic series of the same name. It follows the story of the titular team of heroes with special powers put together by Sir Reginald Hargreeves to save the world.
This follows their birth alongside their other siblings, 43 in all, to different women around the globe without ever actually being pregnant.
The team eventually disbands, but the six survivors return for the crux of the series:
Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreaves’ passing. Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya, and Number Five work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.
Ray Romano will return with his first stand-up set in over 20 years in February, while also starring in the Netflix original film Paddleton with Mark Duplass.
Elsewhere, Kevin Hart will host Kevin Hart's Guide to Black History, complete with re-enactments and stories about "lesser known" standouts and notable names from black history.
There is also a surprise film from Steven Soderbergh dropping mid-month titled High Flying Bird. It's a bit of surprise, but right in line with the director's unorthodox style of releases. From USA Today:
"Moonlight" actor Andre Holland stars in Steven Soderbergh's movie about a sports agent with a daring plan amid a basketball lockout.
